The Johan Cruyff Arena, until 2018 called the Amsterdam ArenA, is the largest stadium in the Netherlands. It is located on ArenA Boulevard in an area full of shopping venues, restaurants and clubs 10 kilometres from the centre of Amsterdam.
The stadium, designed by architects Rob Schuurman and Sjoerd Soeters and opened in August 1996, is not only the home of the football club AFC Ajax but also hosts concerts and numerous other events.
The impressive Amsterdam ArenA has a movable roof, it was the first European stadium to be equipped with one, and its architecture is based on 2 crossed arches connected by longitudinal beams.
The Amsterdam ArenA is easily accessible by public transport, train and metro, as well as by car.
To visit the Ajax Stadium, you can take part in a classic tour or the exclusive VIP tour. The advice is to book online before you go, as on certain days of the year, e.g. in connection with matches, the tour is not allowed.
If you have purchased the I Amsterdam City Card, you get a 25% discount at the ticket counter.
If you buy a ticket for the classic tour, you can walk through the stadium on your own along all the highlights; there are guides along the way who will tell you all about the venue.
In contrast to the classic tour, with the VIP tour you will be a maximum of 12 people, a guide will accompany you throughout the entire tour and you will have a drink included in the skybox. The duration of the tour is approximately 2 hours.
