Fabrique des Lumières is a digital art centre opened in Amsterdam in the wake of the more famous ‘Atelier des Lumières’ already opened in France by the Fondation Culturespaces. The foundation, since the 2000s, has set itself the goal of making culture and art accessible to all through the creation of digital cultural centres and exhibitions and, with this in mind, Fabrique des Lumières was opened in the Dutch capital in April 2022 at the Cultuurpark Westergas, a 2800 m² facility that used to be a gasworks.
Inside Fabrique des Lumières, unique innovative technology is used to create engaging and interactive exhibitions that allow visitors to discover exponents of classical, modern and contemporary art. The exhibitions are designed around the unique architecture of the building, which boasts 17-metre high walls and a special structure that favours an immersive visit. In this context, works of art come to life through light projections and accompanying soundtracks.
The current exhibitions allow you to discover two important Spanish artists Salvador Dalí and Antoni Gaudí. A first section concerns the most famous psychedelic creations by Salvador Dalí (1904 -1989), which are included in a thematic itinerary called ‘Dalí – The Endless Enigma’ where his works are presented to the musical accompaniment of Pink Floyd songs.
A second section deals with the work of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852 – 1926), who throughout his career created many “extravagant and provocative” works that were also a source of inspiration for Dalí. From Parc Güell to Casa Batlló, from Casa Milà to the Sagrada Família: here you can admire all his projects accompanied by the music of George Gershwin in the background. Fabrique des Lumières also regularly hosts temporary exhibitions by other internationally renowned artists.
