The Lookout is an observation platform of the A’dam observation tower, from which there is an unparalleled view of Amsterdam. The tower was originally a Shell company headquarters, but was later transformed into a ‘vertical city’, called A’dam, which is short for Amsterdam.
This ideal vertical city has at its apex a terrace with a 360° view of the entire city, the Lookout, which opened in 2016. It boasts a height of 100 metres above the ground and since its opening, the Lookout has received strong public acclaim, welcoming thousands and thousands of visitors.
The attraction has an ideal location; it is situated on the banks of the river IJ, directly opposite the central station. Considering that buildings in Amsterdam are on average no higher than 30 metres, one can easily guess that the view from the Lookout provides a great view of the entire city.
There are two vantage points to choose from:
Since the summer of 2016, a second attraction has been designed on the Lookout, consisting of a series of swings on which visitors can, once safely strapped in, have fun pushing and swinging, as they wish, over the limits of the platform. This breathtaking experience, suitable for the most courageous, is, however, not included in the tower entrance ticket.
Tickets can be purchased online. Combined ‘Rock the city’ tickets are also available, combining access to the A’dam Lookout with access to the Heineken Experience. From the former Heineken factory, a boat will take you right to the foot of the tower.
If you want to save money on admission to the A’DAM Lookout you can buy the Go City Explorer Pass Amsterdam: with this discount card you get free admission to the A’DAM Lookout, as well as tickets to other must-see Amsterdam attractions, such as the Rijksmuseum or the Moco Museum.
The A’DAM Lookout is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (last admission at 8 p.m.). To get to the platform, you have to take a free ferry across the IJ River. In 22 seconds then, a lift will take you to the 20th floor.
The A'DAM Lookout is located in the northern part of Amsterdam, across the river IJ and opposite Central Station, in the Amsterdam-Noord district.
City Card allow you to save on public transport and / or on the entrances to the main tourist attractions.
