If you are in Amsterdam during the Christmas period, you will be captivated by the beautiful Christmas markets organised in the squares of the Dutch capital.
The twinkling lights that adorn the wooden stands make the atmosphere electrifying and wonderful. The illuminations, lit from November until mid-January, make any stroll through the centre of Amsterdam and especially the Medieval Centre, the Jordaan and the Grand Canal District magical.
One of Amsterdam’s best Christmas markets, complete with an ice skating rink, is set up on the Museumplein. Other small and tasty Christmas markets are organised in Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein and Koningsplein.
A large, glittering Christmas tree is decorated with over 4 kilometres of lights on Dam Square outside the Royal Palace. The tree’s 40,000 LED lights are traditionally lit in the first days of December.
